Governance Mentoring programme

Volunteer Wellington is delighted to be offering, in partnership with Mentoring Foundation of New Zealand, a Governance Mentoring Programme to support and strengthen community leaders in the Wellington community and voluntary sector.

The mentoring model has been designed to increase participants’ effectiveness in community governance by developing capability, connection and confidence. Each mentee will be matched with a mentor who has strong not-for-profit governance experience and whose skills overlap with their current needs. All mentees and mentors will be supported by the programme coordinator.

  • Mentees register their interest for the programme, specifying their personal development goals. Mentees are then shortlisted and interviewed to confirm final selection and numbers.
  • Mentors are sourced from across the community and are matched with mentees based on goals and experience.
  • Mentees and mentors receive training, orientation and six months of support, including setting development goals.
  • Programme will run from 29 April to the 11 November 2025, with a minimum of 6 x mentoring sessions (1-2 hours in length).
  • Mentees and mentors attend learning and networking meetings to strengthen the connections between all participants.
  • Impact evaluation and outcome reporting are completed at the end of the programme.
