Special Olympics Te Whanganui-a-Tara provides year-round sports training and competition for people with intellectual disabilities, fostering confidence, friendship, and the joy of athletic achievement. Bocce is the Italian version of Pétanque, and similar to Indoor Bowls — an easy sport to pick up for coaching purposes.
What you'll do
You'll run warm-ups and skill exercises, and help with practice games in a warm, friendly and supportive environment. Subject to availability, you may also support teams at inter-club tournaments during the year around the lower North Island (Wellington, Porirua, Palmerston North or Hawke's Bay), with the option to compete yourself as a Unified Partner alongside registered athletes.
What you'll bring
Enthusiasm and respect for working with people with intellectual disabilities, and a fun, warm and encouraging coaching style. No prior bocce coaching experience is needed.
Training and Support
No formal training is required — current coaches will train you on site, and online training modules are also available.
