About Volunteer Hutt | Te Awa Kairangi
As the only organisation in the Hutt Valley dedicated to both volunteerism and community sector development, Volunteer Hutt works alongside local groups to build stronger, more connected communities.
Led by Marcia Skinnon as a Kaupapa Māori organisation, Volunteer Hutt is committed to creating culturally safe and inclusive spaces that honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi. The exploration of tūao is central to our mahi, informing the way we support organisations, foster partnerships, and celebrate the contributions of tangata whenua and volunteers alike.
Through volunteer recruitment, professional development, organisational support, and community advocacy, we help local organisations thrive. Initiatives such as Te Aka Tūao demonstrate our commitment to innovation, collaboration, and strengthening community engagement across the Hutt Valley.

Volunteering Opportunities in the Hutt Valley
Lead communications and promotion across social media and local channels for the Upper Hutt Repair Cafe, about 10 hours monthly.
Spend relaxed afternoons with a man in Taita who enjoys music, painting, and outings through IHC's friendship programme.
Drive Blind Low Vision NZ members to weekly Indoor Bowls in Upper Hutt and Lower Hutt.
Hem, sort, measure, and line curtains using sewing machines for the Earthlink Curtain Bank in Lower Hutt. Tuesdays and Thursdays preferred.
Join a small team to help a former refugee family settle in Upper Hutt with practical support. 1–4 hours weekly, training provided.
Deliver hot meals to older, ill and disabled people in Upper Hutt. We need a driver now for the Monday Ebdentown run, and relief drivers for other runs. Own vehicle required.

Deliver four career coaching sessions at Arohata Women’s Prison, providing practical guidance and confidence-building for participants.
Help wrap gifts and collect koha for Plunket at Upper Hutt Mall throughout December.
Support the delivery of inclusive Rainbow and takatāpui community events across Te Awa Kairangi, from event setup through to guest welcoming and pack-down.
