Volunteer Porirua builds the capacity and capability of community and voluntary organisations throughout Porirua by connecting people with meaningful volunteer opportunities and supporting organisations to develop strong volunteer programmes.
About Volunteer Porirua | Te Puna Tautokotia
Volunteer Porirua Te Puna Tautokotia opened in central Porirua on 24 August 2001 (the first International Volunteer Year), our first branch outside of Wellington city. This was a timely development, as there was a real demand for volunteers in the Porirua region and the then-team wanted to acknowledged the expense of travelling to Wellington.
Working closely with local organisations, businesses, and volunteers, we help strengthen the community sector and create positive outcomes for Porirua communities.
Our focus is on collaboration, practical support, and long-term community impact. By helping organisations engage volunteers effectively and making volunteering more accessible, we contribute to a stronger, more connected Porirua.

Drive the KCA chiller truck on Thursday or Friday mornings to collect and sort food donations from supermarkets. 6-month commitment.
Sort and box donated food, clothing, and goods for distribution at the KCA warehouse in Johnsonville. Weekday mornings, 6-month commitment.
Join Sunday food rescue runs, collecting and sorting donations from supermarkets and delivering to the KCA warehouse. Monthly, 6-month commitment.
Drive the KCA refrigerated truck on Monday mornings to collect rescued food from Newlands, Churton Park, and Porirua supermarkets.
Take a woman from a refugee background for weekly driving practice in Porirua. Female volunteers required. Full licence needed.
Sort, pack, and distribute food parcels and essential items at Salvation Army Porirua Community Ministries welfare space. Flexible hours.
Work in the Salvation Army Plimmerton Family Store, welcoming customers, sorting donations, and providing retail support. No experience needed.
Provide general property and building maintenance at Plunket facilities in Porirua. Handyperson skills needed, flexible hours.
