Kaicycle is an urban farm & composting initiative in Newtown that has been operating since 2015. At its core, Kaicycle is a climate justice project, aiming to develop a resilient food system for Te Whanganui-a-Tara.

We have a range of volunteer opportunities involving hands-on gardening and composting activities, including seed-raising, planting, watering, mulching, weeding, compost-turning and bagging, and minor repairs. Some work is easy going and social, some (like compost turning) is physically demanding and a good workout - you can choose your own adventure!

We have regular working bees multiple times a week, which are an awesome learning opportunity and a fun way to get active while doing something tangible and rewarding. We have a range of volunteer sessions each week, and occasionally on the weekend. Please check out our website for a calendar of our most up to date volunteering opportunities https://kaicycle.org.nz/volunteer.

No previous experience is required, we will teach you everything you need to know on the job. You'll need to bring:

  • Weather appropriate clothing you don't mind getting dirty. It's always good to bring warm gear and waterproofs just in case
  • Covered shoes that you don't mind getting dirty

All other tools and equipment will be provided at the farm.

If you have any pātai about our volunteer sessions, please email community@kaicycle.org.nz

Volunteers with specialist skills in marketing, social media, building, or plumbing are also warmly welcomed.
