Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne is a 225-hectare, fully fenced ecosanctuary where many of Aotearoa New Zealand's rarest native species thrive in a predator-free environment. Supported by over 500 volunteers, we're working towards a 500-year vision to restore nature and transform how people live with it.

The predator-exclusion fence is critical to Zealandia's biosecurity and the protection of the extraordinary wildlife that calls the sanctuary home. Volunteer Fence Checkers play an essential role in helping keep this world-leading conservation project secure.

This volunteer opportunity involves regularly walking a designated section of the fence perimeter, looking for anything that could cause a biosecurity breach, and submitting a report after each check. Volunteers are rostered to a specific day and can complete their check at any time that suits them. This is a particularly great opportunity for people who live near the fence line.

We are currently looking for Fence Checker volunteers fortnightly on Sundays. As with most volunteer roles at Zealandia, we ask volunteers to commit to the role for at least six months.
