Food Rescue Admin Volunteer
Wellington
Join our team on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday morning starting from our warehouse in Johnsonville at 7.45am to 11:45am. Upon arrival at our warehouse, you'll receive a manifest listing where you need to go to rescue food and who the food is to be allocated to whilst out on the road. Training is provided via a one-on-one session and there is a comprehensive manual for reference.
Your main tasks will include:
- Going out in our branded chiller truck as a passenger.
- Checking 'use by' and 'best before' dates for quality assurance.
- Sorting and boxing donated food from local supermarkets.
- Weighing all donated food for accurate reporting on the scales that we provide you.
- Using KCA's smartphone provided to upload photos and narrations to our Facebook page while on the road.
- Contacting the local foodbanks and organisations on your manifest when you're on your way back to base so that they can meet you to get the food off the truck back at our base in Johnsonville.
You'll also use your personal cellphone to check in and out of stores via the Woolworths app (minimal data usage), or manually check-in at customer service desks.
What You Need:
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with partner agencies for refrigerated stock pickups across the Greater Wellington region (Kapiti, Upper Hutt, and Wellington City).
- Physical fitness: You'll be required to lift up to 15kg individually or 20kg with a partner, with the assistance of a barrel trolley provided by KCA.
This role requires a weekly commitment for 6 months. Join us in making a difference by rescuing and redistributing food to those in need.
