Blind Low Vision NZ provides emotional and practical support so that people who are blind, deafblind, or have low vision can keep working and living independently. Requests from members in the Kapiti/Waikanae area are varied but often centre on one-on-one companionship.

This volunteer opportunity could involve reading to a member, helping with crosswords, sudoku or puzzles, small tasks around the house such as labelling pantry items, or driving members to recreational activities, social events or medical appointments (where agreed to in advance). Time commitment depends on the role and the member's availability, and petrol is reimbursed at $0.79 per km if driving. Full training and ongoing support from the BLVNZ team provided

What you'll bring:
• A full, clean driver's licence (if driving members)
• Comfort interacting one-on-one, typically in the member's home
• Willingness to complete BLVNZ's registration and onboarding process as well as training in Human Guiding, disability awareness and more.
