General Volunteers (Wellington)
Wellington
Blind Low Vision NZ provides emotional and practical support so that people who are blind, deafblind, or have low vision can keep working and living independently. Requests from members in and around Wellington are varied but often centre on one-on-one companionship.
This volunteer opportunity could involve reading to a member, helping with crosswords, sudoku or puzzles, small tasks around the house such as labelling pantry items, or driving members to recreational activities, social events or medical appointments (where agreed in advance). Time commitment depends on the role and the member's availability, and petrol is reimbursed at $0.79 per km if driving.
What you'll bring:
• A full, clean driver's licence (if driving members)
• Comfort interacting one-on-one, typically in the member's home
You might be a great fit if you are:
• Friendly, welcoming and reliable
• Comfortable assisting people with low or no vision
Training Provided: Details to be confirmed with the organisation.
