Poetry Readers Wanted
Wellington
Te Hopai Trust Hospital has cared for the aged and needy in Wellington since 1888, providing compassionate support and believing that everyone deserves dignity and connection. The gift of the spoken word, through poetry, brings meaning and pleasure to the lives of residents.
This volunteer opportunity involves visiting Te Hopai Hospital in Newtown and reading poetry aloud to residents, either in one-on-one or small group settings, at a time and frequency arranged with the organisation. No prior experience in reading to elderly people is required.
What you'll bring:
• Confidence reading aloud and a love of poetry
• A warm and patient manner with elderly people
• Reliability for agreed visit times
You might be a great fit if you are:
• Passionate about language, storytelling, or literature
• Caring, attentive, and genuinely present with residents
• Flexible and willing to adapt your reading to residents' preferences
Training Provided: Details to be confirmed with the organisation.
