At Land Information Freehold Education (LIFE) Trust (Charitable Trust Registration: CC6335), we use Toi Whakapapa and personal stories — memories, art, family trees, parents’ homes, kitchens, backyards and letterboxes — to secure tino rangatiratanga (self-determination).

Our mission is to educate tamariki, whānau and court officials about keeping whakapapa when a loved one dies, using art, kapa haka, animation and everyday whānau stories to help families with the Māori Land Court succession application (Form 22, the succession application without a will). Our vision is a deeper, culturally grounded understanding of the whakapapa process that empowers future generations and fosters a sense of belonging.

We are currently seeking an organised, proactive and reliable Programme Coordinator to act as general manager of the rōpū delivering the Toi Whakapapa Educational Programme.

Tasks include:

• Overseeing and streamlining all work and programme activities
• Supporting the Kaumātua and project leads across the school programme, 2D animation and kapa haka development
• Keeping projects on track and managing logistics
• Helping build relationships with partner organisations

Please note: applicants must currently live in the Wellington region.

Special Skills Required:

• Strong organisational, time management and administrative skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication, including experience managing action items and coordinating schedules
• Experience with or comfort using digital administrative platforms (experience with Open Collective or crowdfunding platforms is a plus)

Expected Personality: Organised, proactive and reliable. Highly culturally aware, with deep respect for tikanga Māori and confidence working alongside Kaumātua and diverse community partners. Passionate about community connection and bringing educational and cultural taonga to life.

Days, Hours for Role: The project team meets weekly on Wednesdays from 11:00 to 1:00 in central Wellington, with individual task time between meetings. This role runs for several months, for the duration of the initiative.

Training Provided: You will be introduced to all aspects of the Trust’s work and the structure of its streams, with close support from the volunteer team and the Kaumātua of the Toi Whakapapa Programme.
