Newtown Community and Cultural Centre (Te Whare Hapori o ngā Puna Waiora) is a Wellington community hub dedicated to bringing people together. Free Soup Friday is a weekly tradition where anyone who needs it can share a hot, communal meal in warmth and solidarity.

This volunteer opportunity involves leading a small kitchen team from 9am every Friday to prepare large batches of multiple soups, garlic bread, and salads for service from 1pm to people who need it. The Soup Team Lead guides and instructs the volunteer kitchen team throughout preparation. The aim is to build a rotating roster of enough team leads to alternate weeks.

• Confidence making soup and managing a small kitchen team
• Basic food safety knowledge
• Reliability and commitment for a weekly Friday shift

You might be a great fit if you are:
• Confident in the kitchen and calm in a busy environment
• A natural leader who enjoys working with a small team
• Motivated by feeding and supporting people in the community
