At Land Information Freehold Education (LIFE) Trust (Charitable Trust Registration: CC6335), we use Toi Whakapapa and personal stories — memories, art, family trees, parents’ homes, kitchens, backyards and letterboxes — to secure tino rangatiratanga (self-determination).

The Toi Whakapapa programme uses personal stories, art and family history to help rangatahi explore their connection to whakapapa and whenua. Governance and cultural integrity are essential to delivering this work well and reaching the young people who most need it.

We are currently seeking up to three Trustees to join the LIFE Trust Board for a term of one to three years. We are particularly looking for people with a background in teaching and education, Māori culture and tikanga, and/or trust governance.

Tasks include:

• Contributing to the governance and strategic oversight of the Trust
• Attending Board meetings and taking part in decisions

Special Skills Required:

• Governance, board or senior leadership experience
• Knowledge of Māori culture, tikanga or education (preferred)
• Sound strategic and collaborative decision-making skills
• Confidence using common business technology, such as email, online meeting platforms and document-sharing tools
• Comfort working in New Zealand workplace and community settings, with an awareness of Te ao Māori and local cultural and social practices

Days, Hours for Role: Board meetings are held on Wednesdays from 11:00 to 1:00. Trustee terms are one to three years.

Training Provided: Context and orientation will be provided by the LIFE Trust team.
