Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne is a 225-hectare, fully fenced ecosanctuary where many of Aotearoa New Zealand's rarest native species thrive in a predator-free environment. Supported by over 500 volunteers, we're working towards a 500-year vision to restore nature and transform how people live with it.

Weekday Ranger Assistants work alongside Infrastructure Rangers and fellow volunteers on a wide range of practical projects throughout the sanctuary. No two days are the same.

Volunteers work as a group alongside a ranger on a variety of projects and jobs across the valley. These can include vegetation clearing, track maintenance, construction projects and other day-to-day tasks that support the sanctuary's operations. The role involves moderate physical activity outdoors and volunteers regularly use hand tools.

As with most volunteer roles at Zealandia, we are looking for people who can commit to volunteering regularly for at least six months.

What you'll bring:

• Good physical fitness
• Keenness and willingness to get stuck in
• Comfort working outdoors in a range of weather conditions

You might be a great fit if you are:

• Passionate about conservation and native wildlife
• Practical, hands-on, and happy tackling a variety of tasks
• Someone who enjoys working outdoors as part of a team

What's in it for you:

• Varied hands-on work across the sanctuary
• Opportunities to see fascinating native species, including birds, reptiles, invertebrates and plants
• Practical conservation and infrastructure experience
• Be part of our incredible volunteering whānau
