The Trust’s objectives are to promote maritime heritage in the Wellington region and to restore Hikita’s ability to be self-propelled and return to lifting its design weight of 80tonne.
Our Mission:
Maritime Heritage Trust of Wellington manages and maintains Hikita, Wellington’s historic heavy lifting floating crane. Residing at the Taranaki Street Wharf, Hikitia is an important part of Wellington’s rich maritime history.
Volunteer with us
Guide groups of up to ten visitors around historic SS Hikitia at Taranaki Street Wharf on Saturdays. At least twice monthly, training provided.
Join Saturday restoration work parties on SS Hikitia, with tasks from painting and carpentry to welding and rigging. All experience levels welcome.
