About Volunteer Hutt | Te Awa Kairangi
As the only organisation in the Hutt Valley dedicated to both volunteerism and community sector development, Volunteer Hutt works alongside local groups to build stronger, more connected communities.
Led by Marcia Skinnon as a Kaupapa Māori organisation, Volunteer Hutt is committed to creating culturally safe and inclusive spaces that honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi. The exploration of tūao is central to our mahi, informing the way we support organisations, foster partnerships, and celebrate the contributions of tangata whenua and volunteers alike.
Through volunteer recruitment, professional development, organisational support, and community advocacy, we help local organisations thrive. Initiatives such as Te Aka Tūao demonstrate our commitment to innovation, collaboration, and strengthening community engagement across the Hutt Valley.

Board Convenor
Chair monthly Board meetings, support the Centre Manager, and guide strategic direction for Lower Hutt Women’s Centre. ~15 hours per month.
Visit an isolated older person in the Hutt Valley for one hour weekly, attend support groups, and maintain coordinator contact.

Share live music at Thumbs Up activities in Porirua for adults with intellectual disabilities. Flexible timing.
Lead creative workshop sessions at Bhakti Lounge on Thursday evenings, guiding participants through art, crafts, or wellness activities.
Lead Guide and Ranger groups for young women aged 9–17 in Lower Hutt, supporting outdoor adventures and award achievements. Weekly.
Lead a weekly playgroup in Featherston during school terms, welcoming families and supporting Plunket's volunteer team.
Facilitate a Plunket in the Neighbourhood (PIN) group in Greytown, creating a warm, supportive space for parents of babies up to six months old to connect.
