About Volunteer Hutt | Te Awa Kairangi
As the only organisation in the Hutt Valley dedicated to both volunteerism and community sector development, Volunteer Hutt works alongside local groups to build stronger, more connected communities.
Led by Marcia Skinnon as a Kaupapa Māori organisation, Volunteer Hutt is committed to creating culturally safe and inclusive spaces that honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi. The exploration of tūao is central to our mahi, informing the way we support organisations, foster partnerships, and celebrate the contributions of tangata whenua and volunteers alike.
Through volunteer recruitment, professional development, organisational support, and community advocacy, we help local organisations thrive. Initiatives such as Te Aka Tūao demonstrate our commitment to innovation, collaboration, and strengthening community engagement across the Hutt Valley.

Volunteering Opportunities in the Hutt Valley
Conduct day and night community safety patrols across Lower Hutt in a supplied patrol vehicle. Must be 25+, police vetted.
Work in the Salvation Army Lower Hutt Family Store, sorting donations, serving customers, and maintaining the shop. No experience required.
Join a small team to help a former refugee family settle in Lower Hutt with practical support. 1–4 hours weekly, training provided.
Join a small team to help a former refugee family settle in Upper Hutt with practical support. 1–4 hours weekly, training provided.
Work in the Salvation Army Upper Hutt Family Store, sorting donations, serving customers, and maintaining the shop. No experience required.
Work in the Salvation Army Lower Hutt Family Store, sorting donations, serving customers, and providing friendly retail support.
Crew inclusive sailing sessions at Seaview Marina in Lower Hutt, assisting with sailor transfers, boat operation, and water safety. No experience needed.
Manage administration, record meeting minutes, and maintain member contacts for Hutt Valley Horticultural Society. Monthly meetings.
Help set up flower shows, manage entry desks, and prepare prize cards and certificates for Hutt Valley Horticultural Society events.
