About Volunteer Hutt | Te Awa Kairangi
As the only organisation in the Hutt Valley dedicated to both volunteerism and community sector development, Volunteer Hutt works alongside local groups to build stronger, more connected communities.
Led by Marcia Skinnon as a Kaupapa Māori organisation, Volunteer Hutt is committed to creating culturally safe and inclusive spaces that honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi. The exploration of tūao is central to our mahi, informing the way we support organisations, foster partnerships, and celebrate the contributions of tangata whenua and volunteers alike.
Through volunteer recruitment, professional development, organisational support, and community advocacy, we help local organisations thrive. Initiatives such as Te Aka Tūao demonstrate our commitment to innovation, collaboration, and strengthening community engagement across the Hutt Valley.

Hem, sort, measure, and line curtains using sewing machines for the Earthlink Curtain Bank in Lower Hutt. Tuesdays and Thursdays preferred.
Deliver four career coaching sessions at Arohata Women’s Prison, providing practical guidance and confidence-building for participants.
Join The Road Forward Board, supporting governance of this survivor-led organisation addressing sexual harm. HR, legal, or finance skills welcome.
Mentor former refugees in Lower Hutt to develop driving skills and gain their licence. Flexible hours, must be 21+ with full licence.
Take a woman from a refugee background for twice-weekly driving practice in Lower Hutt. Female volunteers required.

Recruit, train, and schedule repair volunteers for Upper Hutt Repair Café’s monthly sessions. Flexible commitment.
Join the Lower Hutt Community Foodbank Committee for monthly governance meetings. Skills in finance, comms, or health and safety valued.
