About Volunteer Hutt | Te Awa Kairangi
As the only organisation in the Hutt Valley dedicated to both volunteerism and community sector development, Volunteer Hutt works alongside local groups to build stronger, more connected communities.
Led by Marcia Skinnon as a Kaupapa Māori organisation, Volunteer Hutt is committed to creating culturally safe and inclusive spaces that honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi. The exploration of tūao is central to our mahi, informing the way we support organisations, foster partnerships, and celebrate the contributions of tangata whenua and volunteers alike.
Through volunteer recruitment, professional development, organisational support, and community advocacy, we help local organisations thrive. Initiatives such as Te Aka Tūao demonstrate our commitment to innovation, collaboration, and strengthening community engagement across the Hutt Valley.

Volunteering Opportunities in the Hutt Valley
Staff the reception desk at Presbyterian Support Central in Upper Hutt three days per week, answering phones and greeting clients warmly.
Deliver hot meals to elderly and isolated people across the Hutt Valley on weekday late mornings. ~2 hours per session, mileage reimbursed.
Deliver one-to-one English tutoring in a learner’s home in Lower Hutt for 1–2 hours weekly. Full training provided, 6-month commitment.
Environmental restoration at Waiu Wetland in Wainuiomata including gorse removal, planting, and fitting plant protectors. Monthly sessions.
Plant native species for dune restoration at Petone Beach. Sessions on the first and third Thursdays of each month from 9 am.
