Volunteer Wellington is the namesake and main office of the greater organisation. We have been supporting and championing volunteering in Wellington since 1992!
About Volunteer Wellington
Every year, we connect thousands of people with meaningful volunteer opportunities while supporting more than 300 community organisations, charities, and grassroots groups that rely on volunteers to deliver essential services.
We take a people-centered approach to volunteering. We support both individuals looking to volunteer and the organisations that rely on volunteers to deliver their services. Our mahi focuses on making volunteering accessible, inclusive, and impactful for everyone involved. We also provide comprehensive support to community organisations through personalised consultancy, volunteer management training, strategic planning, and networking opportunities.
Our model is based on deep community relationships and 34 years of experience. It is not a one-size-fits-all approach, but one that evolves alongside the sector. Organisations consistently tell us that our services are essential. Volunteers tell us they feel seen, supported, and inspired.

Volunteer Opportunities in Wellington
Support staff with meals, crafts, exercise, and conversation for people living with dementia at the Marsden Club, Karori. Weekdays, 10 am – 2 pm.
Complete training then facilitate trauma support groups for people affected by abuse. Up to 4 hours per week, diverse backgrounds welcome.
Welcome visitors and answer calls at Men and Trauma NZ’s Wellington office, supporting people reaching out for help. 3+ hours per week.

Driver
Drive The Free Store’s van across Wellington to collect surplus food from eateries for redistribution. Mon–Fri, 1:30–5 pm. Full licence needed.

Driver Co-pilot
Accompany the driver on food collection runs across Wellington, packing and loading surplus food efficiently. Mon–Fri, 1:30–5 pm.
Wash and dry dishes and containers at The Free Store after the day’s food service. Mon–Fri, 5–6 pm.

Tree care
Help with tree release, weeding, and planting to support native bush regeneration at Matairangi (Mount Victoria). ~2 hour flexible sessions.
Hand out flyers to students at Victoria University’s Kelburn campus during 19–27 February 2026, promoting Bhakti Lounge.

Join the Wellington Red Cross Branch, supporting events and community programmes. Optional committee membership with monthly meetings.
