Volunteer Wellington is the namesake and main office of the greater organisation. We have been supporting and championing volunteering in Wellington since 1992!
About Volunteer Wellington
Every year, we connect thousands of people with meaningful volunteer opportunities while supporting more than 300 community organisations, charities, and grassroots groups that rely on volunteers to deliver essential services.
We take a people-centered approach to volunteering. We support both individuals looking to volunteer and the organisations that rely on volunteers to deliver their services. Our mahi focuses on making volunteering accessible, inclusive, and impactful for everyone involved. We also provide comprehensive support to community organisations through personalised consultancy, volunteer management training, strategic planning, and networking opportunities.
Our model is based on deep community relationships and 34 years of experience. It is not a one-size-fits-all approach, but one that evolves alongside the sector. Organisations consistently tell us that our services are essential. Volunteers tell us they feel seen, supported, and inspired.

Volunteer Opportunities in Wellington
Join the Take 10 Safe Zone crew on Courtenay Place on Friday/Saturday evenings, providing a safe and welcoming space for people. Training provided.
Help with vacuuming, mopping, cleaning, laundry, and bed-making at Ronald McDonald House Wellington. Tue–Fri mornings, police check required.
Join Saturday restoration work parties on SS Hikitia, with tasks from painting and carpentry to welding and rigging. All experience levels welcome.
Guide groups of up to ten visitors around historic SS Hikitia at Taranaki Street Wharf on Saturdays. At least twice monthly, training provided.
Collect and return members living with dementia to the Marsden Club in Karori daily, with optional afternoon outings. Petrol voucher provided.
Join the mobile support team on Courtenay Place on Friday/Saturday nights, providing water, phone charging, and a safe space. 9:30 pm – 4:30 am.
Hem, line, and alter donated curtains to fit specific homes using machine sewing skills. Flexible hours, home or workshop based.
List curtains on TradeMe for the Curtain Bank, including photographing, writing descriptions, and managing listings. Flexible, remote work.
Support daily Curtain Bank operations including sorting curtains, processing requests, and database management. Flexible hours.
Drive a purpose-built bus of residents on outings from Huntleigh Home in Karori. Class 2 licence required. Mondays and Wednesdays.
