About Volunteer Wellington
Every year, we connect thousands of people with meaningful volunteer opportunities while supporting more than 300 community organisations, charities, and grassroots groups that rely on volunteers to deliver essential services.
We take a people-centered approach to volunteering. We support both individuals looking to volunteer and the organisations that rely on volunteers to deliver their services. Our mahi focuses on making volunteering accessible, inclusive, and impactful for everyone involved. We also provide comprehensive support to community organisations through personalised consultancy, volunteer management training, strategic planning, and networking opportunities.
Our model is based on deep community relationships and 34 years of experience. It is not a one-size-fits-all approach, but one that evolves alongside the sector. Organisations consistently tell us that our services are essential. Volunteers tell us they feel seen, supported, and inspired.

Volunteer Opportunities in Wellington
Lead Brownie, Guide, or Ranger groups in Wellington with evening meetings during term time. Full leader training provided.
Walk a section of Zealandia’s predator-exclusion fence regularly, checking for biosecurity issues and submitting reports. 6-month commitment.
Drive residents of St John of God Karori to activities and appointments using a supplied vehicle. Full licence and police check required.
Accompany the driver when transporting Karori residents to activities and appointments, providing physical assistance and reassurance.
Work in the Vinnies shop in Lower Hutt, sorting and pricing donated goods, and providing warm customer service. No retail experience needed.
Accompany an older person on a weekly one-hour walk in Wellington, providing transport to a suitable walking area when needed.
Join Forest and Bird Wellington planting and weeding sessions in reserves across the region. Weekend mornings, no experience needed.
Work as a Shop Assistant at Two Todman op shop in Brooklyn, welcoming customers and maintaining the community-centred atmosphere.
Hands-on urban farm work at Kaicycle in Wellington including planting, composting, and weeding. Tue/Fri mornings, Thu evenings.
Assess donated curtains at the Sustainability Trust warehouse, measuring and recording details in the database for distribution. Flexible shifts.
