About Volunteer Wellington
Every year, we connect thousands of people with meaningful volunteer opportunities while supporting more than 300 community organisations, charities, and grassroots groups that rely on volunteers to deliver essential services.
We take a people-centered approach to volunteering. We support both individuals looking to volunteer and the organisations that rely on volunteers to deliver their services. Our mahi focuses on making volunteering accessible, inclusive, and impactful for everyone involved. We also provide comprehensive support to community organisations through personalised consultancy, volunteer management training, strategic planning, and networking opportunities.
Our model is based on deep community relationships and 34 years of experience. It is not a one-size-fits-all approach, but one that evolves alongside the sector. Organisations consistently tell us that our services are essential. Volunteers tell us they feel seen, supported, and inspired.

Volunteer Opportunities in Wellington
Care for young native trees through weeding, litter collection, and restoration tasks in Wellington. No experience needed.
Mentor a family in Wellington, sharing practical life skills in home management, cooking, budgeting, and parenting. Weekly visits, full training.
Volunteer in the HUHA boutique op shop on Cuba Street, Wellington, helping with customers, stock sorting, and store presentation.
Accompany clients using the therapy pool showers at Wellington South Pool, assisting with personal care in a respectful and dignified way.
Support quarterly social meet-ups in Wellington for people with deafblindness. 2–3 hour sessions, adapting to individual communication needs.
Join the Orange Sky team at Strathmore Park on Wednesday evenings, providing free laundry, showers, and warm conversation. 5:30–7:30 pm.
Join the Vogelmorn Community Group’s People Committee, contributing to governance, volunteer programmes, and community engagement.
Support a former refugee with two weekly one-hour driving sessions in Wellington over 16–20 weeks. Dual control car provided.
Capture photos and videos at events for Dress for Success Wellington's newsletter and social media. Own professional equipment required.
Assist customers, handle cash, and promote programmes at the Dressed on The Terrace recycled clothing boutique. Weekday shifts available.
